Animal races
Race across the room as a crab, a frog, a bear and a snake.
You'll need
- A clear stretch of floor
How to play
- Mark a start and a finish line.
- Choose an animal to be: frog jump, bear crawl, crab walk.
- Race, then swap animals.
- Let your child invent a new animal and call the race.
Try saying this
“Which animal should we be next? Show me how it moves.”
Your part
Race as the same animal, a little more slowly. Let them be the referee and make up the rules.
If it stalls
- Do the animal first, then watch if they copy. Silly is the point.
- Lower the stakes by racing the clock, not each other.
Short on time? One frog jump race, one bear crawl.
Why it's good for them: Crawling and jumping in different ways builds strength and body awareness.
Not this one? Try balance beam walk, sock ball toss, indoor hopscotch.
