Sound effect story
Tell a story and add sound effects with objects and voices.
You'll need
- Objects that make noise: keys, paper, a cup, a spoon
How to play
- Tell a short story about a walk in the woods.
- Pause for your child to add a sound at each part.
- Use objects for footsteps, doors and rain.
- Swap and let them tell the story.
Try saying this
“What would that door sound like?”
Your part
Pause often and wait for them. Use whatever sound they choose, even if it surprises you.
If it stalls
- Make the first sound yourself, then wait.
- Start with a simple story like a trip to bed.
Short on time? Tell a three-sentence story with three sounds.
Why it's good for them: Making sounds for a story builds listening and imagination.
Not this one? Try scarf dancing, body beats, silly song swap.
