Track and town
Design a town for the trains with boxes and blocks.
You'll need
- Toy trains and track
- Blocks or boxes
- Paper for signs
How to play
- Plan a route with a station and a tunnel.
- Build houses and bridges from boxes.
- Write signs for each stop.
- Run a timetable for the day.
Try saying this
“Tell me about your town. Who lives here?”
Your part
Follow their lead on the layout and the story. Comment on what you see them doing, and be the passenger who asks where the train is going.
If it stalls
- Comment instead of asking: 'The train is stopping at the bridge.' Then wait.
- Add one new problem, like a broken bridge, to restart the story.
Short on time? Build one station and send the train through.
Why it's good for them: Building a world and acting in it grows planning, language and cooperation.
Not this one? Try twig fairy house, marshmallow structures, cardboard box car.
