Colour scavenger walk
Match nature to colour cards and spot every shade on the way.
You'll need
- Paint-chip cards or coloured paper
- A bag
How to play
- Give each of you three or four colour cards.
- Walk and find something that matches each one.
- Collect small things or just point at big ones.
- Lay your finds out in a rainbow at the end.
Try saying this
“Which colour do you want to find first?”
Your part
Walk beside them and hunt your own colours. Share a find with ‘I found a green that is almost yours’, then see what they do.
If it stalls
- Do one colour together, then hand over the cards.
- No matches? Look for ‘nearly’ the same. Close counts.
Short on time? Find just one thing for one colour.
Why it's good for them: Matching colours teaches close looking and gives words for shades.
Not this one? Try leaf rubbings, garden bug hunt, puddle jumping.
