Oobleck goo
Mix cornflour and water into a goo that is both solid and liquid.
You'll need
- Cornflour
- Water
- A big bowl or tray
- Food colouring (optional)
How to play
- Pour two cups of cornflour into a bowl.
- Add one cup of water slowly and mix with your hands.
- Punch it, then let it ooze through your fingers.
- Wipe it into the bin, not the sink.
Try saying this
“Is it a liquid or a solid? What do you think?”
Your part
Get your hands in too. Describe what it does, ‘It goes hard when I squeeze’, and let them make up what it is.
If it stalls
- Put a spoon of it in their hand and wait.
- If they dislike the feel, use a spoon and a tray first.
Short on time? A cupful on a tray to poke.
Why it's good for them: Oobleck breaks the rules, which makes children curious about how things work.
Not this one? Try sink or float, colour mixing drops, dino dig.
