Glitter calm-down jar
Make a jar to watch when big feelings arrive.
You'll need
- A clear jar with a lid
- Warm water
- Clear glue and glitter
How to play
- Fill the jar with warm water and a squeeze of glue.
- Add glitter and close the lid tightly.
- Shake it and watch the glitter settle.
- Breathe slowly until it is still.
Try saying this
“What colours do you want in your jar?”
Your part
Let them choose the colours and do all the shaking. Sit beside them and watch the glitter settle together.
If it stalls
- Let them choose and shake. You just watch the glitter with them.
- Use it together the next time they feel big feelings, not just now.
Short on time? Shake an existing jar and watch it settle together.
Why it's good for them: Giving big feelings a visible shape helps children learn to calm themselves.
