Marshmallow structures
Join dry spaghetti and mini marshmallows into shapes that stand.
You'll need
- Dry spaghetti
- Mini marshmallows
- A plate
How to play
- Poke spaghetti into marshmallows to make a cube.
- Add more to build higher.
- Test how much weight the structure holds.
- Try again with a new design.
Try saying this
“What is the strongest shape you can make?”
Your part
Build a small shape of your own and show your surprise when it collapses. Let them decide the plan.
If it stalls
- Share a piece you noticed was strong, then wait for them to try it.
- Snap spaghetti shorter if they get frustrated with wobbles.
Short on time? Make one triangle and one cube.
Why it's good for them: Learning which shapes are strongest is real engineering, and wobbly failures are part of it.
Not this one? Try craft stick houses, domino chain, cardboard box car.
