Cushion fort and story
Build a den, grab a torch and read or invent a story.
You'll need
- Cushions and blankets
- A torch
- A book
How to play
- Build walls with chairs and cushions, then roof it with a blanket.
- Crawl in with a torch and a book.
- Take turns reading or inventing the next sentence.
Try saying this
“What kind of hideout shall we make? You be the boss.”
Your part
Be the helper, not the architect. Hold the blanket where they point, and say what you see them building.
If it stalls
- Hold the blanket where they tell you, and wait to be given the next job.
- Out of story ideas? Say 'Once upon a time there was a very small...' and let them finish.
Short on time? One blanket over two chairs and a short story inside.
Why it's good for them: Shared stories grow vocabulary and make bedtime-style closeness part of an ordinary afternoon.
Not this one? Try jigsaw together, picture book detective, photo album tour.
