Wax resist rainbow
Draw secret pictures in crayon, then paint over to reveal them.
You'll need
- White paper
- White or light crayons
- Watery paint
- A big brush
How to play
- Draw patterns or a picture pressing hard with the crayon.
- Paint across the whole page with watery paint.
- Watch the crayon lines pop through.
- Try a second page with a message for someone.
Try saying this
“What secret picture are you going to hide?”
Your part
Draw a hidden picture of your own. Share the surprise when the paint reveals it, and ask what they hid before you guess.
If it stalls
- Reveal one small corner first to show how the magic works.
- Use bright crayons if white ones are hard to see while drawing.
Short on time? Draw a squiggle, paint over it, watch it appear.
Why it's good for them: Predicting what will show up is a small science lesson wrapped in art.
Not this one? Try salt dough animals, paper weaving, sponge painting.
