Jigsaw together
Tip out a jigsaw, find the edges and puzzle it out side by side.
You'll need
- A jigsaw that suits their age
- A tray or table
How to play
- Tip the pieces out and turn them face up.
- Find the corners and edges first.
- Take turns placing a piece.
- Celebrate when the last piece clicks in.
Try saying this
“Can you spot a piece that might fit here?”
Your part
Find a piece and say what you are looking for, ‘I need something blue with a bump’. Let them decide where it goes.
If it stalls
- Sort the pieces by colour and wait. They often take over from there.
- Swap to a smaller puzzle if frustration builds.
Short on time? Do the four corners.
Why it's good for them: Puzzles grow patience and spatial thinking, and doing one together keeps pressure off.
Not this one? Try hand shadow puppets, indoor picnic, photo album tour.
