Pavement chalk town
Draw roads, shops and houses, then drive a toy car through.
You'll need
- Chunky chalk
- Toy cars
- A flat bit of pavement
How to play
- Draw a long road with junctions.
- Add a shop, a school, a car park and a park.
- Drive cars through and park them.
- Add a bridge or a river when you want more.
Try saying this
“Who lives in this town? Where does this road go?”
Your part
Add to the town where they point. Describe what is happening with the cars, and let them decide what each building is.
If it stalls
- Draw a little car park and wait. They often fill in the rest.
- Rain coming? Take a photo of the town and come back tomorrow.
Short on time? One road, one car, one parking space.
Why it's good for them: A big drawing on the ground invites movement and stories at the same time.
Not this one? Try star map at dusk, cloud spotting, colour scavenger walk.
